Chelsea have officially confirmed the signing of Joao Pedro from Brighton & Hove Albion in a deal worth $76 million. The 23-year-old Brazilian forward has signed a long-term contract through 2032 and becomes one of the headline additions of Enzo Maresca’s first transfer window as head coach.
João Pedro, who scored 30 goals in 70 appearances for Brighton, brings flexibility, energy, and flair to Chelsea’s front line. He is capable of operating as a center forward, a second striker, or from the left wing, making him an ideal tactical fit for Maresca’s evolving system at Stamford Bridge. The club described him as “press-resistant and creative,” qualities that match the profile Maresca has emphasized in recent interviews.
The Brazilian expressed his excitement after completing the move, stating: “Everyone knows this is a big club with a great history. When you are a Chelsea player, you must think one thing win.” Chelsea, meanwhile, emphasized their belief in Pedro’s long-term value and role in the club’s future ambitions.
Though the timing of the deal coincides with Chelsea’s involvement in the FIFA Club World Cup, Pedro is not part of the squad for that competition. The move is aimed squarely at long-term squad development and Champions League contention in the coming seasons, rather than short-term reinforcement for the tournament.
Pedro joins Chelsea as their fourth confirmed signing of the summer window, following the arrivals of Jamie Gittens, Omari Kellyman, and Estêvão Willian. His acquisition strengthens Chelsea’s attacking depth and signals the club’s continued investment in young, high-upside talent as part of a broader rebuilding strategy.
