Club World Cup Group G Review: Manchester City Dominate, Juventus Advance

Published on Jun 26, 2025

Group G of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup showcased Premier League champions Manchester City at their clinical best, while Juventus also did enough to progress to the knockout stage. Wydad AC and Al Ain exited after three consecutive defeats each.

Manchester City: Group Stage Perfection

Manchester City finished top of Group G with 9 points from 3 matches. Their final group game—a dominant 5–2 win over Juventus confirmed their superiority.

Erling Haaland came off the bench to score his 300th career goal, while J. Doku, Phil Foden, and all got on the scoresheet. A Juventus own goal by Pierre Kalulu capped off the rout.

City now move into the Round of 16, where they will face the runner-up from Group H.

Juventus: Second Spot Secured

Despite a heavy loss to City, Juventus had already done enough to qualify. With wins over Wydad AC and Al Ain, they secured 6 points and finished second in the group.

Goals from Teun Koopmeiners and Dušan Vlahović against City were not enough to change the result but showed promise going into the knockouts.

Wydad AC and Al Ain: Early Exits

Both Wydad AC and Al Ain failed to win a match and were eliminated. Despite the results, their participation offered valuable international experience.
