Barcelona have unexpectedly placed young midfielder Fermín López on the transfer market, softening their stance on a player once considered untouchable. This shift has immediately drawn attention from European giants Liverpool and Bayern Munich, both of whom have shown long-standing interest in the Spanish talent.
The 22-year-old, who emerged as one of Barça’s standout performers last season, is now at the center of a delicate balance between club finances, squad depth, and player loyalty.
Until recently, Fermín López was viewed as a cornerstone of Barcelona’s future under new manager Hansi Flick. However, ongoing financial pressures and an overcrowded midfield have forced the club to reconsider its position.
Barça are now open to selling Fermín if a substantial offer arrives, with reports suggesting the Catalan side would consider bids in the range of €50 million or higher. The decision follows the club’s growing need to remain within La Liga’s Financial Fair Play regulations after pursuing high-profile signings such as Nico Williams and Dani Olmo .
The softened stance from Barcelona has put both Liverpool and Bayern Munich on high alert.
Despite this interest, no formal bid has been submitted yet—though that could change quickly if Barça begin actively inviting offers.
In contrast to the club’s shifting position, Fermín remains committed to Barcelona. He recently rejected offers from both Bayern Munich and Chelsea, expressing his desire to continue developing at Camp Nou. The player is under contract until 2029 and has a €500 million release clause, underlining Barcelona’s previous intention to keep him long-term.
According to reports, Hansi Flick has also made it clear to Fermín that he remains part of the squad's plans—unless a major offer changes the club’s financial calculus.
With Barcelona now willing to negotiate, the ball is in the court of Liverpool and Bayern. A concrete offer of €50 million or more could trigger serious talks. However, if no bids meet Barcelona’s expectations, Fermín is expected to stay and fight for his place—just as he has consistently expressed.
Unless financial necessity forces a sale, the young midfielder remains a proud La Masia product who is determined to prove himself in a competitive Barcelona squad.
