Manchester United are facing a major summer shake-up as five key first-team players including academy graduates Marcus Rashford and A. Garnacho have formally requested to leave the club. Under new head coach Ruben Amorim, the Red Devils are preparing for a significant rebuild, and these potential departures could mark the beginning of a new era at Old Trafford.
M. Rashford, a symbol of the United academy, is seeking a fresh start after nearly a decade in the first team. Following a loan spell at Aston Villa where he registered 4 goals and 6 assists in 17 appearances, Rashford has reportedly communicated his desire to leave. The situation was further intensified when United stripped him of the iconic No. 10 shirt and handed it to new signing Matheus Cunha. Barcelona and Bayern Munich are among the top clubs interested in the 26-year-old forward.
Alejandro Garnacho’s frustration has grown since the Europa League final, where he was left on the bench until the final 20 minutes. The 20-year-old winger has since made it clear he wants out, with several top clubs — including Chelsea, Napoli, and Aston Villa — monitoring his situation. United are believed to value the Argentine at around £60 million, and a sale could generate significant funds for new signings.
J. Sancho returned from a season-long loan at Chelsea but has been informed that he is not part of Amorim’s plans. While Chelsea are not expected to make the deal permanent, Juventus, Everton, and several Turkish clubs are interested. After a mixed spell in Manchester, Sancho is expected to be one of the first to depart.
Despite his struggles at United, Antony found new life on loan at Real Betis, scoring five goals in 17 La Liga appearances. Betis are reportedly negotiating a permanent deal worth between £34 million and £43 million. Antony has shown a desire to stay in Spain, and United are unlikely to stand in his way if the fee is right.
Left-back Tyrell Malacia spent the last season on loan at PSV Eindhoven but failed to make an impact due to injuries and fitness issues. With United looking to streamline their wage bill and reshape their squad, Malacia is another name expected to depart if a suitable offer arrives.
All five players have been granted permission to delay their return to pre-season training as they explore exit options. United are prioritizing compliance with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations, and the funds generated from these sales could be critical to signing Amorim’s top targets, including Bryan Mbeumo and further reinforcements in midfield.
This wave of exits also clears space in the dressing room and on the wage bill, allowing Amorim to impose his tactical identity with a refreshed and focused squad.
United fans should expect a summer of major movement. With Rashford and Garnacho’s futures uncertain, and Sancho and Antony already eyeing the door, the transfer window could define the club’s trajectory under Amorim.
For now, one thing is clear: change is not coming to Old Trafford it’s already begun.
