Tammy Abraham Agrees to Join Solskjaer’s Besiktas

Published on Jul 01, 2025

Tammy Abraham is set to leave AS Roma after three seasons, with Turkish giants Besiktas reaching a $21.5 million (€20M) agreement to sign the English striker. The deal will reunite Abraham with former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is leading a squad overhaul in Istanbul ahead of the 2025–26 season.

Roma confirmed acceptance of the offer just hours before the June 30 financial fair play (FFP) deadline, securing much-needed funds as part of their summer rebuild under new head coach Gian Piero Gasperini.

The structure of the deal includes:

  • A $16 million base fee
  • $2.1 million in bonuses
  • And an initial loan payment of $2.3 million to spread the cost

Roma’s newly appointed sporting director, Frederic Massara, moved swiftly to complete the transfer to satisfy FFP obligations before the cutoff. Abraham, once signed from Chelsea for nearly $44 million, will leave the club with a return of 37 goals in over 120 appearances.

Abraham’s Journey: From London to Rome to Istanbul

After joining Roma in 2021, Abraham enjoyed an electric first season in Serie A. However, injuries and competition saw his form dip in later campaigns. He spent last season on loan at AC Milan, where he contributed 10 goals in all competitions but failed to earn a permanent deal.

Under Gasperini’s plans, Abraham was deemed surplus to requirements. With no place in Roma’s long-term vision and few suitors in Italy or England, Besiktas emerged as a realistic and timely destination.

Solskjaer’s Turkish Revolution

Besiktas have been aggressive in the market this summer under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, recruiting seasoned European names like Ciro Immobile and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Abraham brings valuable Champions League and Premier League experience and is expected to lead the line in their upcoming European qualifiers.

Solskjaer is reportedly keen to make Abraham a focal point of his attacking setup, capitalizing on his height, mobility, and finishing ability.

What’s Next?

  • Medical: Abraham is due in Istanbul for a medical in the coming days.
  • Contract Signing: A multi-year deal is expected, with Besiktas aiming to announce the signing shortly.
  • Preseason: The 27-year-old will join the squad in time for summer training and preparations.

Verdict

For Roma, the deal eases financial pressure and clears space for Gasperini’s tactical reshuffle. For Besiktas, it’s a major coup—signing a striker still in his prime with top-level experience. And for Tammy Abraham, it’s a fresh opportunity under a familiar face in a club determined to reclaim domestic and continental glory.
